The Mayor and other dignitaries placed the final bricks at Libra Road in Plaistow, E13. The development, on a former derelict brownfield site, will provide 17 quality one and two bedroom apartments for rent. The contemporary new development, close to Plaistow station, is designed by award winning architects Bell Phillips and has been built by HG Construction.
Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham said: “One of the promises I made this year as part of the New Deal for Newham was to deliver more homes. Red Door Ventures has made incredible strides in 2016 in providing this. The company has increased the number of high quality properties in Newham as well as making a commercial return for the Council, which can be invested in other services.
“I am proud of what the company has achieved so far and I am confident next year their rapidly increasing portfolio of properties will develop even further. It is great to see the progress made on this high quality development in Plaistow and I look forward to seeing the finished apartments early next year.”
Libra Road has been designed to repair the urban streetscape and restructure this area of Libra Road creating a three sided cul de sac with a dynamic folding facade that brings life to the street and provides recessed balconies or gardens for each dwelling, which are angled to maximize sunlight from the south.
The scheme will comply with London Housing Design Guide standards. Good size windows and a light shaft will introduce excellent natural daylight throughout reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
Chair of Red Door Ventures, Lesley-Anne Alexander, CBE commented, “We are delighted that the Mayor was able to mark the completion of our third development.
“Momentum is really building for Red Door Ventures, with planning applications already submitted for a further 423 units, including our largest scheme to date in East Ham. We are delighted with the success we have achieved this year and look forward to a buoyant 2017.”
Libra Road is expected to launch in March 2017. Tenants will be offered a range of packages to furnish their property for an additional fee and longer tenancies of up to five years to suit the needs of residents. The apartments will be ideal for those who are keen to have quality accommodation in East London.
