Planning granted for two strategic sites for Red Door Ventures

Designed by Karakusevic Carson Architects, Grange Road in Plaistow will comprise of 77, one, two and three-bedroom new build apartments for private rent in two L-shaped mansion blocks fronting Grange Road and Solent Rise. The second site, on a vacant brownfield site, previously garages on Doherty Road will feature nine affordable family homes, which will be offered as affordable rent. Work is expected to start on site at Grange Road in late Spring 2017.

Each apartment at Grange Road will have a spacious private balcony directly accessible from the main living space. The top floor units are set back from the edges of the building, reducing the impact of the surrounding streets and providing large private terraces. 

The two L shaped blocks are arranged to establish a strong street frontage to Grange Road whilst opening up to, and taking advantage of long views along, the Greenway to the north. Two on-site disabled parking spaces are included in the scheme and an additional five on-street parking spaces will be created on Solent Rise.  

Doherty Road is located close to Barking Road and is in a largely residential area. The site is within walking distance of Plaistow Station and Canning Town DLR and there is access to bus routes along Barking Road and Balaam Street. The development, which comprises of a new terrace of five townhouses and four maisonettes, replaces a disused and hoarded up garage site.

The high-quality brick homes will provide much needed affordable family accommodation, all of which have generous amenity space in the form of private back gardens and terraces. The new houses will have private front doors opening onto the pedestrianised section of Warmington Road, providing animation to, and passive surveillance of, this poorly overlooked stretch of street. On-street parking will be available to residents.

Red Door Ventures’ healthy pipeline of new developments across Newham will bring much needed new accommodation to help relieve the housing pressure in London.
