Leading PRS developer Red Door Ventures has obtained planning permission to convert the Grade II listed East Ham Old Fire station into a private rented residential development with a single commercial unit.
The scheme will see the retention and refurbishment of the historic fire station and its conversion into 5 one bedroom apartments and 2 two bedroom apartments, all for private rent. There will also be a new restaurant/cafe.
Kent Taylor, Managing Director for Red Door Ventures comments, “We are delighted that the Old Fire Station has received planning permission. With three developments already launched and a further twelve due to start on site in the next year, we are in an extremely strong position for the rest of the year and into 2018. Work is expected to start on site in November with completion next summer.”

The Grade II listed East Ham Old Fire Station was built in 1913 and forms part of the civic complex of buildings developed for the former East Ham council. The original layout of the building lends itself to residential use, as it originally housed firefighters' accommodation on the first and second floors.
Red Door Ventures will be taking full account of the heritage significance when converting the building and work will involve the significant enhancement to the street fronting elevations. The ground floor engine room, which once housed the fire engines, will also be restored and opened up as a café/restaurant, introducing it to the public and revitalising the frontage.
Careful consideration will also be given to the four large doors located on High Street South. The doors were originally used to provide entrance for the fire engines and have subsequently been removed and replaced with unsympathetic sub-standard PVC windows and sliding doors.
Red Door Ventures will be removing and replacing these with four walnut timber double doors, which are inspired by the original fire room doors. These will provide a traditional and sophisticated aesthetic which will complement the brick and stone façade of the fire station.
Red Door Ventures has plans to build thousands of homes over the next ten years, bringing much needed new accommodation to help relieve the housing pressure in London.
