Red Door Ventures submits planning application on former Co-Op site in East Ham

The development, known as Brickyard, will feature Red Door Ventures’ first ‘Hub’ which will be home to facilities such as a gym, residents event space, lobby space and large landscaped courtyard area. These facilities will be available for all existing residents of Red Door Venture schemes to use. There will also be two retail spaces located on the ground floor. 

Lesley-Anne Alexander, Chair of Red Door Ventures commented, “This planning application represents another milestone in the growth of Red Door Ventures and is significant as it allows us to provide the first ‘Hub’ for existing residents to use.

“Our vision is to provide high quality homes for private rent with additional services and facilities to make time poor residents’ lives as easy as possible. Furniture and soft furnishing packages will also be available meaning residents have the option of just moving in with their suitcases!”

Red Door Ventures along with Helical Retail Ltd are developing the site to create a mixed-use retail, leisure and residential development. The proposed buildings will vary in height between two and 11 storeys, generally stepping up in height towards the north-east and west of the site. The site includes 98 homes with a building of 10 storeys which will be built around a central courtyard and feature communal table and BBQ facilities for residents to socialise. An adjacent pavilion can be opened up to become a space for larger gatherings. Planters are also being introduced to allow residents to grow their own vegetables.

Lesley-Anne continues, “Through numerous pre-application meetings with Newham Council, reviews by the appointed Design Review Panel and presentations to the Members Review Panel and Greater London Authority, the scheme has undergone significant alterations to ensure all aspects of the design not only compliment the immediate context, but also enhances it. We hope this development will be seen as an exemplar of a mixed use scheme that has been well designed and well detailed, and which makes the best use of this previously developed site.

“As part of our planning application we will also be providing 11, three bedroom affordable rented homes in Wordsworth Avenue and Nelson Street.”
