Give us your opinion on the consultation around padel courts at Dennison car park
Posted 09 March 2026
The Dennison Point car park has an opportunity to be transformed to create new padel courts together with a new user for the train cafe. The cafe closed this year due to lack of passing footfall, and this new padel proposal will ensure that the cafe benefits from the padel players, as well as the wider community.
The idea will see temporary padel courts being built in the car park, which will result in fewer parking spaces. We want to ensure that residents who park here still have provision, but the car park suffers from anti-social behaviour, which the padel courts will help reduce.
Padel is a tennis-like game that is easy to play, offering Newham residents the opportunity to socialise and get fit. It is hugely popular and growing rapidly, and matches will attract people to the site to activate it and provide a ready audience for the repurposed cafe .
Populo is helping with the arrangement, and is able to represent the opinions of residents via this consultation. The below link will download a list of FAQs that will answer any questions you may have, including our plans to ensure residents and the wider community can access the facilities for a trial or reduced rate - all of which we hope to negotiate with the ultimate provider.
The courts will be temporary and up to 4m high due to their need to be covered to extend usability across the year (see the image below for an example of uncovered padel courts to see what they might look like). The facilities will be professionally managed while operational and we will address issues around noise and light with the provider as part of the design.
