The Dovetail is a place for the residents and neighbours of The Carpenters Estate to build connections, share skills, try out new activities and get involved with their local community. We run weekday activities, Tuesday – Friday, for residents and neighbours of The Carpenters. Join us for a cuppa, a chat and some great resident led workshops.

We run weekday activities, Tuesday - Friday, for residents and neighbours of The Carpenters Estate. You can see our monthly calendar here.

The Dovetail is closed on Mondays to allow the team to plan and organise upcoming activities. We are focussed on creating activities with residents and neighbours of The Carpenters Estate to meet their needs. There are paid opportunities for people to plan and run their own sessions as well as lots of activities that they can take part in for free.

Alongside these sessions we have programmes of activity that offer skills and training to support everybody to thrive.

Health and wellbeing

The Dovetail is a place where residents can connect with themselves and each other; it is a micro version of what the new Carpenters Estate neighbourhood will foster.

We will programme activities where people can meet each other, spend time together, build relationships and foster belonging. Whether it is a simple cup of tea, a structured activity or longer training programme we understand the focus needs to be on the relationships that are built, not just the activity we are doing.

Social connections

We know that we all need a little bit of help to focus on what makes us feel good. From nutrition, movement, mindfulness and some kindness to ourselves and each other.

We will programme activities that will feed minds, bodies and souls and support residents to be in the best place to set and achieve goals.

Training and skills

Access to equitable employment and income is a key to creating a happy and stable community.

We will programme activities that offer opportunities for residents to learn new skills, try out new skills, get ready for work and build their own freelance careers or businesses.

The Dovetail proves that providing access to free creative activities encourages people to access the networks and support they need to thrive.

We will programme activities across a range of skills and activities that allow us to cater to the diversity of the neighbourhood and Borough.

Children and young people

Improving access to opportunities for children and young people in Newham is a key ambition for both the borough and Populo.

We will programme activities that focus on skills and training for young people, ensuring that they have exposure to the opportunities available through the wider Masterplan project.

Being aware of the numbers of children and young people living on the estate is an important consideration when programming our activities.
